The GPSR – new rules from 2024
From 13 December 2024, the EU General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR) will come into force. It replaces the previous General Product Safety Directive and applies to all products sold within the EU—whether new, used, or refurbished—even via online platforms like Amazon. Its goal is to enhance consumer safety. Retailers, manufacturers, and importers are now required to meet extensive information and safety obligations. As a dedicated B2B platform, ITscope is neither a manufacturer, retailer, fulfilment provider, nor an economic operator under the GPSR. However, we offer features to support you in complying with the new regulations.
Obligations: what you need to know
The GPSR requires providers to clearly identify products. This includes details such as the manufacturer’s name, contact information, and product warnings. Manufacturers are also obligated to conduct risk assessments to minimise potential hazards. If you use product data from ITscope catalogues for B2C purposes, you should consult an expert to review your information obligations. We strongly recommend adhering to these requirements to avoid warnings or fines. While ITscope cannot provide legal advice, we support you with helpful tools like the “Listed since” feature. Already informed – your benefits as an ITscope customer
Our platform provides essential features for GPSR-compliant checks. The “Listed since” indicator helps you determine if a product was recorded after the deadline, making it easier to identify whether additional safety data is required. Our content partner, Icecat, will soon provide expanded safety information—though no specific date has been announced yet. We are actively working with our partners and will make the information available as soon as it is finalised—ensuring you can meet all requirements even more easily in the future. ITscope informed customers affected by the new regulation via email as early as December 2024.
