Dropshipping-1

27.4.2022 | Platform Dropshipping: easy entry into B2B eCommerce

What's behind the term 'dropshipping' - and how can system houses take advantage of this sales model?

"Earn money effortlessly with dropshipping" - promises concerning the topic of dropshipping often sound like this or similar. Yet the term is only a modern label for something that has long been known as fulfilment or direct trade. The relevancy of this sales model is growing in the B2B sector and especially in the ITC environment.

Dropshipping - fast, cheap, efficient

The usual approach in in eCommerce involves an online retailer offering their products for sale and then shipping them directly to their customers after receiving an order. To be able to deliver at any time, retailers use their own warehouses for stockpiling - this is the reality without dropshipping.

The biggest advantage of dropshipping is that sellers no longer need their own warehouse. When an order is received, the online retailer in question does not have to ship the goods themselves, as the sold products are sent directly from the respective manufacturers or wholesalers. The seller therefore does not have to take care of shipping, and there is no need to operate own cost-intensive warehouses. This extremely low entry hurdle makes dropshipping particularly attractive - the B2B sector is also seeing rising relevancy for this sales model. This is because the procedure of only procuring and shipping products from the wholesaler upon receiving an order is practical and extremely efficient. Dropshipping also offers other advantages:

  • By outsourcing storage and logistics, investment costs are largely eliminated and you can get started directly with a small budget.
  • The possibility of using several suppliers makes it possible to offer a wide range of products.
  • With dropshipping, delivery times are usually much shorter than when a seller first has to procure the goods themselves and then send them on to the customer (if they do not have them in stock).
  • With just an internet connection and an online shop, dropshipping makes distribution possible regardless of location.

B2B dropshipping with ITscope

From smartphones to graphics cards: there are no limits to the dropshipping-product landscape. But is this distribution model also suitable for the IT industry?
Yes, absolutely! With ITscope, you can buy from your trusted wholesaler and they will ship the goods directly to your end customers. An overview of all ITC distributors can be found on our website, including an indication if the respective distributors offer dropshipping. You can also see a list directly within the ITscope platform by navigating to the Companies tab, and then using the filter menus to select Distributor under Role and Custom delivery note under Provided eServices.

Thanks to custom delivery notes, end customers perceive you as the supplier even though the goods were shipped by a wholesaler - and so the bond with your company remains. Via shipment tracking IDs, you can also check directly on the platform whether your end customer has received the goods, available for various parcel services such as DPD, UPS and so on.

With the B2B Suite, the eCommerce solution from ITscope, you can also benefit from several additional advantages. Using order automation, throughput times are reduced even further for dropshipping orders, as your customers' orders are forwarded directly from your portal to the distributors supplying the respective products. Additionally, use the B2B Suite to create customised cloud portals and fill them with user-defined products, prices and CI elements - without any time-consuming individual development efforts required on your part. We would be happy to show you all these features and advantages during a personal conversation, after which you can test the B2B Suite live yourself - simply contact us!
